Awesome breaks start in Avalon

How awesome is this? Avalon isn’t just the location for the iconic Aussie movie Mad Max, it’s the gateway to Geelong and the Great Ocean Road…and less than an hour from Melbourne. Visit a sanctuary for native animals and birds. Or get stuck into authentic fish and chips in Corio Bay. Explore one of Australia’s oldest art collections at Geelong Gallery. This beauty 240km coastline will have you spoiled for choice. Head to Phillip Island and mix it up with the Little Penguins, or grab your cossies and hop on a ferry to the Mornington Peninsula for a dip in the hot springs. Chill out at the spa town of Daylesford or head straight to holiday hotspots like Point Lonsdale, Queenscliff, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads and Portarlington.

Grab a hire car at Avalon and in just 40 minutes you’ll be in Torquay, the home of surfing Gateway to the Great Ocean Road. This stretch was built by soldiers returning from WWI. It snakes around some seriously epic coastline, including the famous Twelve Apostles rock formation. Crikey…Avalon really is awesome.
