Travel to Mackay
Mackay was made for beach lovers
Mackay is home to no less than 31 pristine beaches. Grab your cossies, Aussies!
The region gets a great rep for its fishing, being one of only three net-free zones in Queensland. Jump aboard a charter and explore the freshwater impoundments, offshore islands and reefs. Get up at the crack of dawn to catch the incredible sunrise over the Coral Sea. Cape Hillsborough Sunrise Wallaby and Kangaroo Experience offer a free ‘Sunrise with the Wallabies Tour’ where you’ll meet Eastern Grey Kangaroos and Agile Wallabies who hop down to the beach to find mangrove seed pods. How Bonza is that?!
Mackay is also known as the home of the platypus, an Aussie icon featured on the 20 cent coin. You can catch sight of them on the viewing decks at Broken River. But given how shy these critters are, it’s best to visit at dawn or dusk – remember to tiptoe.
Watch this space for more information on things to see, do and all things Bonza in the Mackay region!
